Enhanced imaging outcomes
X-ray phase contrast data results in a sharpened and improved image through increased delineation of the boundaries and edges of features.

Variations in refraction can occur in samples that have little variation in density, and hence show little absorption contrast, allowing features that would otherwise be invisible to be visualised.
For samples which have poor absorption contrast, phase contrast increases high frequency information thus providing improved visualisation of voids, cracks and fissures.
